Paid Sick Leave: Understanding the Issues, Seeking Solutions
A Panel Discussion with Policymakers and Business Leaders
Hundreds of thousands of New York City workers are without paid sick days at their jobs. On the other hand, small businesses, in particular, face serious economic challenges if and when a bill is passed to require employers to include paid sick days in their benefits packages.
While there is a forceful argument for enacting a paid sick leave bill in the city, adjusting to it in the workplace will come with a considerable cost. This breakfast panel discussion is meant to facilitate a conversation by those on both sides of the issue and hopefully come to an understanding.
Panelists for the event will be New York City Council Member, Gale Brewer; Chuck Hunt, Vice President of the New York State Restaurant Association; Nancy Ploeger, President of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce; and Donna Dolan of the New York State Paid Family Leave Coalition. The moderator for the discussion will be Erika Miller, New York correspondent for PBS’s Nightly Business Report; and a background presentation will be provided by Sherry Leiwant and Nancy Rankin of A Better Balance.
This is a program of NYSEC’s Public Issues Committee. The Public Issues Committee's mission is to develop positions and take action on America's stance regarding war and peace, and the ethical questions at the frontiers of science and family care.
Admission is free and a light breakfast will be served. RSVP is required. Please contact Julie Blutstein at [masked] or [masked]x144.
